Ironic little thing last night while watching a doco on Australia's SBS, a mix of gov and advertising funding station. The doco was on Sweden's alpine railways. The narrator visited a local scientist who bemoaned the retreat of a famous glacier then a little while later told us about a project the locals have going to store water for the summer. They were spraying water over a loose heap of willow branches and allowing it to freeze and could store, he predicted, around 10 million litres this way. He called it a Stipa like in the Himalia's. An amazing ice sculpture. With absolutely zero irony, he stated that they would need to warm the water as it kept freezing in the pipes before it got to the spray. Ah, but the glacier at a higher altitude is doomed because the water won't freeze!
