I have checked the wind energy figures using this website; https://grid.iamkate.com/
Whilst the figure for contribution of wind to the UK grid may have been into single figures back in 2020 and earlier the figures look a lot different today. On the average over one year it seems 20% is the actual figure for wind energy. However, as wind and the solar peak contributions rise with the UK continuing to spend tax payers money on subsidising installations, the need to switch them off (as there is no significant means of storage) at times and still provide base load is not going away.
