From the CO2Science Archive: While it is a fall flower in Canada, not a spring flower, Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. or ‘mums’ as they are called do sometimes make an appearance in spring when we finally take the dead Chrysanthemum baskets we bought last fall off the back porch to make room for the daffodils and tulips we hope to start seeing next month. From 1983 to 1989 there were 14 experiments that showed an extra 600 parts per million CO2 in the air resulted in a 33% growth increase, and one experiment showing 900 parts per million boosted growth by 59%. So when these pleasant flowers return next fall if they appear a bit bigger and healthier you’ll know why.
Really? Imagine that! Last summer I talked to a grad student studying climatology who ran CO2 experiments from 2020 to 2024. She was both amazed and mad that they came to the exact same conclusions!!
Who's not paying attention to the science???
