Asparagus officinalis L. under extra CO2

23 Oct 2024 | Science Notes

From the CO2Science archive: Good old garden asparagus likes sunlight, well-drained slightly alkaline soil, good moisture and apparently extra CO2. The CO2Science archive reports that in 1992 there was a study (only one in the archive) that reported the plant’s net photosynthesis rate increased 25% under an extra 300 ppm of CO2 and 75% under an extra 600 ppm. So if you like a few buttered asparagus spears with your steak, keep the CO2 coming. (And the beef and butter.)

  1. CDN: I found a new website, I think it is called
'The CO2 coalition'. Left a comment about a grad student who I talked to, who's field of study was, CLIMATOLOGY. She was really mad and conflicted because, in her words; 'They lied to us in High School. CO2 is NOT the problem they made it out to be. After 4 years of studying and experiments in the laboratory and greenhouses,
We found CO2 does little to Nothing to temperatures, but plants love higher ppm CO2.
We even had a greenhouse with 600 ppm."
She had a lot more to say that I will not mention here. When I mentioned her on the comments on the CO2 COALITION page, of course there were activists who said I was lying about the encounter or she was lying about her findings.
Oh, activists hate the CO2 COALITION site.
They use real science and real time experiments on their page.
The student I mentioned, was getting her Bachelors Degree. Because I asked her.
