From the CO2Science Archive: Radishes are a staple of salads in the summer (ugh), and it turns out wild radishes are a staple of climate science research. From 1984 to 2013 there were 22 studies examining the effect of adding 300 parts per million (ppm) to the air. The mean biomass gain was 71.2% with a standard error of 12.2%. There were 9 studies looking at the effect of an extra 600 ppm CO2 and they yielded an average biomass gain of 80.3%, with a standard error of 18.4%. And there were 3 studies examining the effect of an extra 900 ppm CO2 which yielded an average biomass gain of 139.7% with a standard error of 39.7%. So when the climate apocalypse comes upon us, at least we’ll have radishes.
