1919 or 2019? Halifax Precipitation Edition

03 Jun 2020 | 1919 or 2019, Science Notes

Having looked at temperature comparisons across the country in our "1919 or 2019?" quiz, we’re now looking at precipitation, another other important climate feature. This pair of lines is from Halifax, and if the doomsayers are right about increases in extreme weather, one of them should be totally unlike the other. One is the good old days of 1919 when the climate was stable and pleasant, and one is nothing but floods and droughts and misery circa 2019. Care to guess which is which?

Here’s the answer:

As always, if you found it hard to tell which line was which, it means you wouldn’t have noticed the difference between the years if you happened to live through them both. At least you wouldn’t have noticed precipitation being particularly better or worse, but you’d have noticed how many other things in the world changed.
