Elevated CO2 and fenugreek

05 Nov 2025 | Science Notes

From the CO2Science.org archive: Trigonella foenum-graecum or fenugreek, from the Latin faenugraecum or “Greek hay”, is used throughout the world but especially in India as a seasoning in many dishes and drinks. Apparently it tastes like maple syrup but if that taste is what you’re after, as Canadians we have to advise you to get the real thing not eat some hay. (OK, yes, we’re saying drink from a tree.) Still, whatever you plan to do with it, it’s probably available because in 2007 and 2020 there were 5 experiments showing that an additional 300 ppm boosted fenugreek growth by an average 85.6 percent. So make your Greek hay while the sun shines and the CO2 is rising.
