From the CO2Science archive: Who, you ask? Myrtle Spurge sounds like a sitcom character, perhaps a frumpy aunt with a loud voice and a crabby expression who regularly shows up in old Carol Burnett Show sketches. But no, Myrtle Spurge, or Euphorbia lathyris L., is a small flowering plant prized as drought-tolerant foliage in gardens, but as so often the case is also condemned as an invasive weed elsewhere. In 2004 there were two experiments showing that an additional 300 ppm CO2 boosted its growth by an average of 36.5 percent. So Myrtle Spurge, whoever you are, you’re in for a treat with all the extra CO2 in the air.
